With ever improving technology, a phone is no longer just for talking to someone! Many of the handsets on the market today, are capable of interfacing with other applications. A hotel could be offering information via their telephones, you could provide a list of local restaurants, and at the press of a button - the customer could ring and make a reservation. How about providing a list of films that are being shown on TV that evening? You could even set a reminder so the phone will alert you when one of them is going to start. Businesses can take advantage of this technology also, how about having your customer details on your phone before you answer the call - the phone could be linked to your database so you know who is calling, and what contracts they currently have open. Technical support advisors could see a call history displayed on their handset relating to the customer who is currently on the phone.

The type of telephone system you require can vary a great deal. If you are a sole trader - then having a VoIP phone is great! You can have several phone numbers, take advantage of services like voicemail, take your phone with you wherever you have a broadband connection - and normally only pay for the cost of the calls you make.
